About the Event:
The Precast Concrete Workshop & Exhibition is a global event organized by the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing & Urban Development in partnership with the Institute of Cement & Concrete at Meru University of Science & Technology (MUST).
The event aims to promote sustainable building materials and technologies, with a focus on innovations in precast concrete, to achieve targeted climate actions in the building and construction global sector. The workshop also includes an exhibition component with cutting-edge technologies on new products and sustainability.Focusing on specified sub-themes related to innovative practices, the Global Community can pave the way for a more sustainable future in the building construction sector, ultimately enhancing the sustainability, resilience, and improved economic development of the construction industry while promoting social equity. Hosting this global event underscores Kenya's commitment to organizing and hosting international events, which strengthens the country’s global relations and partnerships. Additionally, attracting international visitors promotes tourism and stimulates our national economy.
OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP AND EXHIBITIONS:
a) Promotion of the uptake of Sustainable Construction Practices, materials and processes; b) Facilitate discussions on best practices, innovations and technologies in Sustainable building materials and technologies; precast concrete production and applications;c) Engage policymakers in discussions about industry standards and regulations that support the growth of Sustainable Building materials and technologies; andd) Explore financing options and investment opportunities for stakeholders in the Sustainable Building Materials and Technologies.

Promotion of Sustainable Building Materials and Technologies
Sub-themes:
1. Low-carbon Precast concrete in the built environment.
This sub-theme addresses the importance of sustainable urban planning and design principles that promote livable, resilient and environmentally friendly communities. It will focus on incorporation of green spaces and biodiversity in urban development, the development of mixed-use neighbourhoods to reduce transportation emissions, and implementation of zoning regulations that encourage sustainable building practices.
This discussion will also include strategies that can be integrated within Nationally Determined Contributions accounting, highlighting the role of sustainable materials in reducing lifecycle emissions.
2. Innovative solutions under precast concreting.
It will also entail exploration of the latest advancements in precast manufacturing techniques and their applications in various construction projects, including residential, commercial and infrastructure developments. Special focus will be on the role of admixtures in improving the performance and sustainability of precast concrete, including discussions on innovative products and their applications.
3. Eco-Friendly Materials and Resource Efficiency.
This will focus on the development and use of eco-friendly building materials that minimise environmental degradation. It emphasises the importance of resource efficiency in the construction process. It will further focus on the identification and promotion of locally sourced, renewable materials, the adoption of life cycle assessment practices to evaluate the environmental impact of materials and the encouraged use of waste materials in construction.
4. The Enablers: Financing Options and Policy Frameworks for Sustainable Construction.
This sub-theme focuses on the need for a supportive policy framework that encourages the adoption of sustainable building materials and technologies, governing standards and policies, and identifies gaps that need to be addressed to enhance industry growth. It will also highlight successful case studies in infrastructure projects and public utilities, showcasing their benefits in terms of time, cost and environmental impact. Also, identify financing mechanisms and investment opportunities available for stakeholders in the building and construction sector, including public-private partnerships.
Further, a session is organised to review how voluntary carbon markets, Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes biodiversity credits, and super-pollutant elimination credits can finance early-stage innovations in Bio-based Construction.
