About.
The Ministry, through the State Department for Public Works, in collaboration with Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS has initiated the process leading to accreditation of conformity assessment bodies in this sector as well as enhanced certification of building products to ensure building materials, components, and systems comply with industry standards. This initiative is part of the Government's broad strategy aimed at enhancing public confidence in the quality of buildings, standardizing excellence in building control practices, and improving technical expertise and resources within the sector.

In Kenya, under the Accreditation Service Act, 2019 it is required that all Conformity Assessment Bodies involved in any assessment obtain accreditation. This regulation also applies to the building construction industry. The aim of this requirement is to ensure technical competence, reliability and integrity of conformity assessment bodies operating in Kenya.

This initiative, covering State and Non-State actors, will ensure that entities engaged in the building construction industry value chain adhere to safety standards, thus promoting high-quality construction practices across Kenya. Additionally, the initiative will not only ensure compliance with the necessary requirements but also demonstrate the competence, consistency, and impartiality of the entities and products involved, promoting a culture of excellence throughout the industry.
